We’re upside down with excitement here at Row4Victory!! Duncan has been handpicked to join Atlantic Allies; a team of elite former military, world record breakers and professional athletes who will set off in early December 2017 (8 weeks time) and row 3800 miles from Portugal to French Guiana with the sole aim of beating the current record of 48 days 4 hours and 30 minutes. The 4 man team is skippered by Ralph Tuijn; a record-breaking adventurer who is legendary in ocean rowing circles. During his successful Atlantic and Pacific oceans rowing expeditions, he has been run over by a tanker, shipwrecked on a desert island, had his boat struck by lightening and been chased by sharks! Also on the team is Chris Shirley, a former Royal Marines Officer, now working as a freelance Humanitarian Security Advisor and volunteering for Team Rubicon (TR). TR is an NGO that leverages the unique capabilities of former military, emergency first responders and dedicated civilians to respond to natural disasters, in the most hard to reach parts of the world. Chris will be raising money for this awesome charity and you can follow him at Rowing for Rubicon. Last but certainly not least we have Danny O’Brien who is a serving soldier In the Irish Air Corps and is based Dublin Ireland. He is a whitewater kayaker who has competed Internationally representing Ireland. With expeditions to remote parts of the world including, Nepal, Norway, Mexico, USA and most of Europe, from 100ft waterfalls to multi day remote jungle expeditions he is extremely comfortable in all water conditions. He has been consistently pushing himself since a young age from Ultra marathons to ocean swimming. He rowed competitively in scull and sweep rowing for several years and after seeing a friend complete the Talisker Whiskey Challenge has been intrigued. After a long preparation to row the Atlantic west to east this year and a last minute cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances he was delighted to get onboard with Ralph, Duncan and Chris. Duncan will gain invaluable experience on this expedition, with this high calibre team that will no doubt give Row4Victory the upper hand in our attempt to win the TWAC 2018! Exciting times ahead! Special thanks to the talented Domonic Garton (@domgarton) for donating his photography skills to the team.
