ROW4VICTORY TEAM
PERSONNEL

Will Quarmby
Civillian , Landscape Designer.
Team Responsibilities: Team Skipper.
Synopsis: Having trained formally as a furniture designer at Loughborough University, my love for the outdoors paved a career in garden design and landscaping.
Currently living in Ripon, North Yorkshire with my wife Emma and three children. My wife and I used to own and run Quarmby’s Deli and Coffee house, in Sheriff Hutton. It is here I met Fraser Mowlem, and our friendship grew over a love for fitness and custard tarts!
Inspiration: With a passion for fitness, adventure and new challenges, it was following a conversation with Duncan Roy, who’s colleague had rowed the 2015 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge race, that got me to thinking about my next adventure! Coincidently, my daughters returned from school one day full of excitement having attended a talk from the inspirational Yorkshire Rows ladies, after their world record race in early 2016. Seeing an opportunity to inspire my children to challenge themselves and show them that with the right mind-set you can achieve anything, I decided to put a team together to take part in the toughest row in the world across the Atlantic.
Having so many close friends in the armed forces who never fail to impress me with their willingness, enthusiasm and determination, they were the obvious first port of call! True to form, they were quick to offer their support, and within a few weeks we had the team you see today committed to the campaign.
The 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge offers me an opportunity to push my mental and physical limits, perhaps providing some insight into what it’s like for service men to serve in the most dangerous conditions, away from their family and friends. This challenge is also a chance to raise awareness of the support the Royal British Legion offers service men, women and veterans.

Chief Technician Fraser Mowlem G8441942
Royal Air Force Avionics Technician 1999 - Present day.
Team Responsibilities: Equipment and Nutrition.
Synopsis: Having served over 17 years in the RAF, I have undertaken four tours of Afghanistan in support of Chinook Helicopters and one with Harrier force on Op Veritas. A father of two beautiful daughters, I am currently stationed in North Yorkshire with my wife Lee-Emma and our dog, Dennis.
Inspiration: When Will rang me to ask if I would row the Atlantic as part of a team, I was truly humbled, scared but also really rather excited! I couldn't get the idea out of my head, so quickly agreed to join the team and the planning started in earnest…
I have always admired the work of the Royal British Legion and their support for military personnel past and present and with Duncan and Glyn on-board the military ethos was at the forefront of our team relationship. It was obvious to us that Row4Victory should be in support of the Royal British Legion.
2018 also marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force, as a proud airman, I also hope to mark this century of history with my efforts.
Looking back at my career, most of the time I have been deployed in Theatre was at main operating bases which are a safe distance from the hard fight our aircrew and ground troops are exposed to daily. The regular rocket and mortar attacks we took were often opportunistic and mostly ineffective. It’s hard to explain, but you fall into regular work and rest patterns as you go about your daily business. You are acutely aware of the serious and life threatening events that are taking place all around you and all too often communications back home would be turned off, this meant the worst had happened! Communications are stopped in order that the family of the fallen military personnel can be quickly and sensitively informed rather than rumour and hearsay making its way home first.
It was times such as this and many since, where I have come to realise the immense work, help and dedication the Royal British Legion provides to these brave men, women and their families who have been effected and whose lives are changed forever...
Everyman remembered.

L/Cpl Glyn Sadler P057067X
Royal Marines Commando from 1999-2008.
Team Responsibilities: Communications and Medical.
Synopsis: During my military career I served in two tours of Afghanistan on Operations Veritas and Herrick as well as one tour of Iraq on Operation Telic. I now pursue a career in Quality Assurance and Engineering Consultancy. I live near the small village of Borrowby with wife Sarah, daughter Lily, son Harry and dogs Rufus and Tattie.
Inspiration: Having lost comrades in battle and seen the effects of war on mental and physical health, I draw inspiration from efforts made by others to help and support our military personnel. The Royal British Legion provide this support in spades.
2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War and whilst talking to family members I discovered a tie to the Somme battlefield and death of my Grandmothers Uncle Richard McArtie. He was killed by a German artillery shell whilst advancing across no mans land. His name lies forever in memorial on the Ypres monument in France. I will be dedicating my efforts to him and fellow Commandos lost in combat in Afghanistan L/Cpl Matthew Ford, Cpl Danny Winters and Sgt 'Darbs' Derbyshire.

Sapper Duncan Roy, 30180094
Royal Engineers 2013 - 2018.
Team Responsibilities: Navigation and Logistics.
Achievments: Double Guinness World Record Holder having rowed across the Atlantic Ocean Dec 17 – Feb 18 on the Trade Winds 2 route.
Double Concept 2 World Record Holder.
Synopsis: I grew up in a small village in North Yorkshire and I've always had a hunger for exploration and adventure. I joined the Army in Jan 2013 and trained as a Combat Engineer and Surveyor with the Royal Engineers. I served the majority of my career at 24 Commando Royal Engineers. I am now Director of Elite Performance and Three Graces Spa at Grantley Hall in Ripon, North Yorkshire who I am very proud to say are one of our Row4Victory Gold Sponsors.
Inspiration: I suffered a career changing injury, which later led to my medical discharge from the military, while undertaking the 'All Arms Commando' Course in 2015. During my rehabilitation I discovered rowing, initially indoor and then onto the water. I realised when I row, I no longer feel injured and I then have a level playing field for training and competing. A friend and colleague Maj. Ollie Clark competed and won his category in the 2015 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, his story captured me entirely.
When I spoke to Will about the challenge and learnt that he was actively looking to recruit a team I jumped at the chance! With Fraser and Glyn on board it organically grew into the endeavour that it is today.
In December 2018 I took the opportunity to row across the Atlantic Ocean on a different route from Portugal to French Guiana with another team, The Atlantic Allies. We were plagued with technical issues from the start and were forced to make two stops, one in the Canaries on Christmas Day and the other in Cape Verde. We fought on and eventually made our way to French Guiana 65 days after departure from Portugal. The finalleg from Africa to South America earned us 2 Guinness World Records. One for being the first ever team to row this route and the second because I was the youngest person to do so.
I am now really looking forward to bringing the skills and experiences I have gained to Team Row4Victory. We have an extremely strong team and a very fast boat, we have every chance of winning the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge 2018!!!
Last but certainly not least I feel so proud to be supporting our charities; The Royal British Legion and Soldier On having benefitted first hand from theirservices and support. It will be fantastic to be able to give something back to these amazing charities.
